| The Dragon Boat Festival falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month each year and is also known as the Duan Yang Festival, the Wu Day Festival, the Fifth Month Festival, Xia Wu, and Double Fifth. The Dragon Boat Festival is a traditional festival of the Han Chinese people commemorating Qu Yuan. Centred around the exceptionally talented and reclusive Chu state minister Qu Yuan, it has spread throughout the Chinese heartland, fostering a shared folk culture. Qu Yuan is a household name, and the festival serves to honour the noble sentiments of the Chinese nation. Customs associated with the Dragon Boat Festival include eating zongzi (rice dumplings), dragon boat racing, hanging calamus, mugwort and artemisia leaves, burning Atractylodes and Angelica dahurica, and drinking realgar wine!
