Filling: Lightweight, Warm and Cool in Summer The quality of a duvet depends on the quality of its filling. Generally, summer duvets are made using a ‘thermoplastic bonding process’ to create a single, seamless layer of cotton (with the exception of silk duvets). You should check whether the filling is evenly distributed and whether the corners and edges are plump. Of course, another key feature of summer duvets is that they must be lightweight yet warm, so the choice of filling material is crucial. Currently, summer duvets are available with fillings such as polyester fibre, Lyocell fibre, cotton, silk and down. Generally speaking, Lyocell and silk fibres are recommended, as they are moisture-wicking, breathable, lightweight and gentle on the skin.
